Brewed Awakenings Cafe opened in March of 2011 to an overwhelming support from the community. The owners, Kim and Mike, have been married since July of 1989. Although Kim is the face of Brewed Awakenings Cafe, Mike is the backbone of support (both emotionally and financially). Together, they work endlessly to realize their dream - to be more than a place to get a great cup of coffee or bakery item or sandwich, but to create a comfortable, inviting atmosphere and to be an integral part of the community.
Their 2 boys are also an integral part of the business. The oldest, Zach, attends the Young Adult Program in Saline. On the days that he is free, you will find him at the cafe greeting and talking to everyone who walks through the door. Nick, who is attending Grand Valley University helps out with some of the less rewarding, administrative work.
Although owning a business has always been Mike’s dream, Kim has the passion for the coffee business. She worked at a local coffee shop for 7 years until it abruptly closed. She hadn’t realized until then just how much the customers had become a part of her life, a part of her family. She missed all aspects of it and began researching and planning while Mike applied for all the licenses, applications, etc. When the corner spot of Country Creek Shopping Center became available, it all started falling together.
The space we have is bigger than many coffee shops. There are plenty of tables but there is also space. So a small group of friends can meet to catch up, a businessman can come in to get some work done or larger groups can come in to get out of the office (better if it is arranged first). We have free WiFi, comfy chairs and a fireplace along with the tables and chairs.
So come on in and spend time in our chaise, sit by the fire (in the winter), converse with your favorite friend or call ahead for pickup. We are always glad to see you.
